CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE
If you have temperature and humidity sensitive items that you need to store, the only way to go is climate controlled storage! What sort of things benefit from climate controlled storage? Well in our case here in Texas, anything that may be damaged from heat and moisture would benefit. Electronics, for example, may be rendered useless if exposed to temperatures above 90 degrees fahrenheit or excess moisture. Not only does it get well above 90 degrees in the peak of summer here, let alone inside a non-climate controlled storage unit, but drastic temperature and humidity changes in any season can also be damaging. Other items that should be considered for climate controlled storage include important documents, antiques, wood and upholstered furniture, musical instruments, mattresses, books and magazines.
BOAT AND RV STORAGE/PARKING
Nothing says vacation like getting back to nature. Whether that means a day on the lake or an excursion to your favorite camping spot in your RV, it simply can’t be beat! However, many shy away from purchasing boats, camping trailers, and off-roading vehicles because they don’t have a convenient place to park them - but not you! You have the option to park your recreational vehicle of choice at Lockaway Storage! We offer large enclosed units with concrete floors that ensure your vehicle will be completely safe from the elements. You can also rest easy knowing that unwanted visitors, of the human or critter variety, will be unable to access or harm your vehicle. When you’re ready to hit the road for your next adventure, all you’ll be worried about is which way your destination is!
Lockaway Storage Woodlake goes beyond what the typical storage facility offers to ensure our customer’s satisfaction. Starting with our security features, you’ll find all of our units are safe within our fenced and code protected gate. While our access hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., there are also security cameras monitoring the facility 24/7 so we can review any activity that may occur on the property. As mentioned above, we offer climate controlled units that are ideal for keeping your special temperature and humidity sensitive items special! We also have many drive-up units that make accessing your belongings a breeze. And if your unit is in an interior corridor, we have dollies and handcarts ready to assist you in getting your belongings safely to their destination. Speaking of transporting belongings, we also offer moving essentials such as boxes, mattress bags, packing tape, and bubble wrap in our office for purchase! Whether you need supplies to move your belongings into a unit, or into a new home or office space, we are there to help!

Happy 1-Year Anniversary to Ted Sedlak III
Here at Lockaway Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our renters is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with San Antonio team member Ted Sedlak III, who is celebrating his 1-year anniversary with Lockaway Storage this week. All interviews are performed by Peter Soto.
Peter: How did you get started in self storage?
Ted: In self storage? Well, I actually kind of fell into it. I was general manager for a corner store and it was just a really high stress position, many, many hours and I was looking for something that was a little bit more consistent as far as work hours, so I found this job opening on Indeed and applied for it even though I didn’t have much experience. You know, it kind of just fell into place.
Peter: Nice, that’s great. So this is your one year anniversary?
Ted: Yeah, that’s right, my one-year.
Peter: Awesome. Congrats! Have you had any interesting experiences or good stories you’ve collected during your year with Lockaway Storage?
Ted: Well, I mean, yeah, I have a few stories. I don’t know. I don’t really have a funny one. I have some crazy ones. I caught an opossum one time.
Peter: Yeah, wait, let’s hear about that. That’s a strange thing to have happen.
Ted: Yeah, so, I had an opossum living in one of the buildings. I took over a brand new property, so we just opened in August of last year. Nobody was there. It was completely empty and I had an opossum living in one of the buildings. He was trapped somehow. I don’t actually understand how he got into the building, because there’s no way he could actually get in, but I had to trap him with this trap. I set out some apples, you know, and I set out one of those traps, so when they step on it traps them in the cage and whatnot. I caught him live, so I saved him and then I released him out in the country.
Peter: You get to deal with some really crazy stuff working in self storage. Sounds like you’re enjoying it though. Would you say you’re having a good time with Lockaway?
Ted: I love my job. I absolutely love it. I’ve always been a manager, so that sort of thing comes natural to me. It’s not necessarily the type of work, but the company is just amazing. I think Don and Tristina and everybody, they make you feel like a part of a family, you know? I would honestly love to stay with this company as long as possible just because of the atmosphere. I’ve worked for many, many, different large corporations and reminds me of Intel… I used to be a recycle program manager for them for many years and their atmosphere, they want their employees to be relaxed and be family oriented. It’s akin to that, but much better. I love my job and I love the company.
Peter: It sounds like they really allow you to have a good work-life balance.
Ted: Yeah, for sure. And nobody’s breathing down your neck all the time. They allow you to grow and excel without too much micromanagement happening.
Peter: Yeah, that’s something I’ve heard a lot from Lockaway team members is that they give you a lot of independence and they trust you to run things on your own terms.
Ted: Oh yeah.
Peter: So are you the on-site manager or do you live somewhere else in San Antonio?
Ted: No, actually, my partner works for the company, Geno, so we live on-site at North 281, at that property. So I live on-site over there, but I work across town.
Peter: That’s great! How long have you lived in the area? Has it always been home or did you transplant yourself there?
Ted: I’m a transplant. I’m originally from Colorado. I came to Texas about six years ago and I’ve been in San Antonio for about 3 years.
Peter: Colorado’s such a great place. Was there something that brought you down to Texas?
Ted: It was my mom. My mom moved here with her husband, so I kind of followed them out here. My brother was in the military, so he’s out here as well. He’s a state trooper now. I came with my mom down to Austin and then to San Antonio and then she up and left and went to California, so, I was like, “I’m not moving there,” so you guys can have that.
Peter: You’d moved enough!
Ted: Yep, I was done moving.
Peter: It sounds like you’ve carved out a really nice spot for yourself and that San Antonio is treating you pretty well.
Ted: It is.
Peter: That’s awesome. I’ve only been down there a couple times. Everybody knows about the River Walk, but what’s something people should do in San Antonio that tourists may not know about?
Ted: There’s a few places we like to frequent. There’s the Comal River State Park and that’s actually right by my house. It’s basically a river that cuts through the sand stone, so it creates this really scenic view. You can go swimming in the river. That’s probably something people don’t know about. They think of the downtown river, but not really anything outside of that area. It’s kind of in the Stone Oak area in north San Antonio. There’s also a place called Enchanted Rock. It’s kind of in the country, so you go out there to go camping and it’s just this really cool giant rock in the middle of nowhere. There aren’t any mountains here. I’m from Colorado, so it’s not like anything fantastic. You know, I’ve seen the Rockies and I lived there my whole life. Here it’s really flat, so you have to make your own fun.
Peter: So you aren’t always at work. Do you have any hobbies people may not know about?
Ted: I guess people already know what we like to do. We like to garden. That’s one of our main hobbies, being in the garden outdoors. We have a dog named Winston, so we’re always going to the state park walking him. That’s basically what we do. And, of course, movie nights every now and then to relax. So we’re either in the garden, taking Winston for a walk or on a trip.
Peter: Nice. do you have any movie recommendations?
Ted: Hmm… the next thing you should see? I’ve been into this one series called the Chronicles of Shannara. I watch it on Netflix, but I think it comes out on MTV. It’s based on my favorite author, Terry Brooks. They finally made a series out of these books that are my favorite books. Although they aren’t 100% true to the books.
Peter: Oh yeah, they always change stuff.
Ted: Yeah, I’m sad about it. It’s a really good series and I just started watching it a couple days ago. But yeah, Terry Brooks, amazing author. Really read the book though. The books are better than the show.
Peter: What kind of books are they: sci-fi, fantasy?
Ted: It’s more of a fantasy. It’s set like a million years after humans petered out. There’s a world war that killed everybody and they’re trying to start again. That type of setting, but with fantasy elements like elves. More like Lord of the Rings if you’re familiar with those.
Peter: Oh, yeah! Interesting. Kind of like future-fantasy. That’s a fun mix.
Ted: Yeah. The books are amazing.
Peter: Very cool. Well, those were all the questions I had prepared. Something I’ve been asking everyone at the end of these interviews is if there’s anyone they would like to give a shout out to at the company. Would you like to give anyone a shoutout?
Ted: I definitely want to give a shout out to Tristina and Don. He’s an amazing owner and she’s an amazing VP. Also to Amy, my district manager. She’s a wonderful district manager and I couldn’t ask for a better boss.
Peter: That’s awesome. Not going to give a shout-out to Geno? Geno doesn’t get a shout out though?
Ted: He gets a daily shout-out. Oh, I don’t know if it would be too corny to give a shout-out to him on my work anniversary, but I would love to. I just thought I would give one to Don, Tristina and Amy, but you can add him in there for sure. Hmm… what should I say? Well, without him I wouldn’t be here. He’s my rock.
