Best Summer Activities to do around Norwalk, CA

Jon Fesmire | July 16, 2021 @ 12:00 AM

By the time we publish this, we’ll be right in the middle of summer. You’re probably thinking about things to go out and do while the sun is high. We’ve compiled this list of fun summer activities in the Norwalk area for your convenience. All these places are within a half-hour of this city of 105,000 residents and will keep you occupied for hours.

Cerritos Farmers Market

Over in Cerritos Town Center, you can shop at the Cerritos Certified Farmers Market. Nowhere in the area will you find more farm-fresh offerings, but you need to get here early. The farmers market operates from 8:00 a.m. to noon every Saturday. You’ll find eggs, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, nuts, flowers, honey, and more.

Find free parking in the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts parking lot, then head over with your cloth bags to purchase ingredients for any special meals you want to make. The market does not allow dogs or other animals, so leave your furry friends at home.

Cerritos Sculpture Garden

What sort of art do you enjoy? If you like sculptures, we encourage you to visit the Cerritos Sculpture Garden. Think of this as a meditation garden, too, if you like. It’s certainly peaceful with shaded areas to go for a walk or sit and think, and rows of trees, hedges, and stone walls.

Expect new art pieces to show up in the garden periodically and even for old sculptures to get switched out as the garden evolves. This is a place you’ll want to check out again and again.

Golf N' Stuff

For a fun day of playing miniature golf and engaging in other summer activities, visit Golf N Stuff. This site has four 18-hole mini-golf courses, so you can spend all day here playing different courses or come back many times.

Then there’s the Indy Raceway. Race your friends in on their curving track. You can take the wheel or ride as a passenger. If confrontation and slamming into others is more your style, you’ll have fun on the bumper boats, sailing between waves and other boats for a wet ride. Your kids will enjoy the Cannonball Express Train, which travels around the park giving a great view of all the crazy mini golf stations.

If you like old- and new-school video games, head over to the arcade, which features games like Blazing Angels, Guitar Hero, Justice League, and Razing Storm. And when you get hungry, visit the snack bar for hot dogs, nachos, pizza, and sodas.

Hang Time

Want to get some exercise unusually? Then you’ll want to visit Hang Time Adventure Park. Here, you’ll explore your gymnastic side with climbing challenges, trapezes, dodgeball, and much more.

You can even host a birthday party here. This is a great way to make sure the kids have fun and burn off some of their excess energy.

Hathaway Ranch Museum

If you’re curious about American history and how people lived from the 19th century to the mid-20th century, this is a great place to go.

Hathaway Ranch Museum has work equipment from that period, including tools and machinery for hold farming, ranching, and even oil drilling. Check out an antique engine demonstration or take a docent-led tour to learn all about how this equipment works. When you’re done, you may be able to get in on a hayride!

Heritage Park

Here’s more history for you! While you’re learning about the late 19th century, visit Heritage Park, a reconstructed ranch from that period.

We’d like to call attention to several fun features you need to check out. One is the Carriage Barn, which serves as the site’s museum. Like trains? Who doesn’t? You’ll find an 80 ton locomotive in the railroad exhibit. Take a docent-led tour or tour on your own.

If you enjoy your time here, consider renting the site out for a wedding or other family event.

Hollywood Sports

If you want to challenge your friends to a unique sport and you don’t mind getting messy, then we’ve got a site for you. Hollywood Sports Park is a great place to play paintball.

Games come in three levels. They advertise the toughest as, “Great for more aggressive players,” so bring your A-game! However, if that’s not your play style, there are other options.

For those 10 and up, or for families, companies with the right attitude as a team-building exercise, and for groups of friends, there’s a middle level. For kids 7 years and up, there’s a lower impact and less messy version with lighter balls that don’t fly as fast. Everyone should be able to enjoy this fun sport, and Hollywood Sports makes sure that many can.

Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center

Waterslides and swimming are what Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center is all about. In the aquatics center, you can swim in a 50-meter competition pool or the 25-yard recreation and teaching pool. Or, you and your children can take swim lessons, which are so important for child safety.

We encourage you to visit their family waterpark, “Buccaneer Bay,” which is open daily. You can get one-time admission or a season pass, then slip down several waterslides all day long. You can also rent a cabana to relax with family and friends or have lunch. The snack bar, Captain Jack’s Grille, serves hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, pizza, salad, chips, and various drinks, and has combo meals and meals for kids. Their dessert menu features funnel cake, ice cream sandwiches, and more.
